Focus on customer service and safety

Frank has been working at BigBrother for 27 years. In this interview, he talks about the values that he believes characterize the company - trust, safety, and customer focus -and what has been driving him all these years.

Frank started out as a technician. Today, he is a project manager, while he still supports the Service and Maintenance team. “My experience as a technician helps. I know what it takes to work in the field. Planning, materials, agreements with the customer: everything has to be perfect. It saves the technicians a lot of hassle.”

What has kept him at BigBrother all these years? “The freedom. The trust. And the appreciation. Here, you get the opportunity to do things your way, which requires a certain degree of independence. You are not expected to call for every decision, but to come up with a solution yourself. You learn from that.”

Sometimes the Operations Department – a dynamic mix of Service, Maintenance and Projects – has to deal with a high workload. “But quality remains paramount. If something goes wrong, we fix it. It’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you don’t run away from them but learn from them.”

Frank speaks of an open and performance-oriented corporate culture. “The lines of communication are short. You can just walk into the management office. There is room for discussion. And appreciation is explicitly expressed, which motivates.” But that openness also calls for initiative. “You have to dare to take control – managers, technicians and interns alike.”

“showing initiative can take you far. but you have to go for it yourself. and that’s exactly why i’ve been here for so long.”

In everything we do, customer focus and safety come first. “We do everything we can to ensure that our customers are safe, even if that means working a few extra hours. Often, it’s the little things that count: clearly explaining the need for a replacement of providing a temporary solution. That’s what customers appreciate.”

It’s not all work, though: there’s room for fun too. “We have barbecues, drinks, and recently went on a trip to our branch in Romania. We all enjoy and value that.”
