Robbin already knew BigBrother as a supplier to his previous employer. Looking for more customer contact and variety, he made the switch three years ago. “The atmosphere felt good from the start: young, fresh, direct and open. Very different from where I worked before.”

After a short introductory period working on projects, Robbin started working as a field technician. He installs, maintains and repairs security systems throughout the Benelux. “What I like best? The freedom. I’m on the road a lot, work independently and have a lot of customer contact. No two days are alike.”

Although his IT management experience provided a solid foundation, he also had to learn new things. “Alarm system technology and installation were new to me. But at BigBrother, you learn mainly by doing. You get the opportunity to grow, as long as you show initiative.”

Initiative is indeed appreciated, as is feedback. “You don’t have go through various hierarchical levels to discuss something. You can just walk in. And if you have an idea, it is taken seriously, even if it’s not yet completely finished.”

BigBrother develops its own software and has its own camera systems – a rarity in the industry. “That makes the work more technical and interesting. We keep our finger on the pulse and are constantly working on innovation.”

Robbin describes the culture as open and direct. “Our mindset is ‘work hard, play hard’. You have to be able to take a punch, but you also get a lot in return: appreciation, a good salary, great colleagues, fun activities. Recently, the entire company travelled to our office in Romania to celebrate our 30th anniversary. How cool is that?”

However, it is not only about fun and freedom, but also about responsibility. “If you don’t leave a system in good working order, it can have major consequences. Our work can save lives. You need to realize that. But you’re not on your own – we always help each other out.”
